General Construction Steel

Construction steel EN S355 (SS2172) or (Micro-alloyed SS 2142-2132) used for moderately stressed details, characterized by good machinability during cutting operations and good weldability. The steel can be surface hardened by quenching and carbonitriding, but the core hardness remains unchanged. Stocked in round, square and rectangular sections with ground or untreated surfaces.

Machine Steel

EN C45E (SS 1672) This steel is intended to be used in its natural state for moderately stressed details, it has good machinability during cutting operations, but it is not weldable at room temperature. This construction steel can be made tough by induction hardening to increase surface hardness and better resist wear. Stocked in round, square and rectangular sections with ground or untreated surfaces.

Toughened Steel

This type of steel is usually used for components with higher strength requirements, with tensile strength of up to about 1100 N/mm2. The three most common grades of steel we stock are as follows in ascending order of strength. Most dimensions are available in M-steel, which stands for improved machinability in machining. Construction steel EN 25CrMo4 Q+T (SS 2225) quenched and tempered to tensile strength of about 600-900 N/mm2. This grade has low through-hardening capacity, the steel is weldable at room temperature. EN 42CrMo4 Q+T (SS 2244) quenched and tempered to about 900-1050 N/mm2. This grade can be used for induction hardening, the steel has moderate through-hardening capacity, the steel is not weldable at room temperature. EN 34CrNiMo4 Q+T (SS 2541) quenched and tempered to about 900-1100 N/mm2. Some dimensions are also available in "High-Hard" execution with hardness of 42-45 Hrc. The steel grade has good through-hardening capacity, the steel is not weldable at room temperature. These steels are heat treated in their delivery state and usually do not require any further treatment. The steel types are stocked in round sections with turned or unprocessed surface.

Case-hardening Steels

Case-hardening steels are used for components that require a combination of toughness, wear resistance, and resistance to impact and shock loads, as well as good fatigue strength. The standard steel for this is EN16NiCrS5 (SS 2511). The steel is machined in a soft state with a subsequent heat treatment to achieve its final properties. During heat treatment, carbon is added to the surface layer, making the surface hard and wear-resistant. This creates compressive stresses in the surface while the core material has sufficient strength to withstand the stresses that occur at high surface loads. It is these properties that make case-hardening steel particularly suitable for components such as gears and shafts in gearboxes and similar applications. The steel type is stocked in round sections with turned or unprocessed surface.

Nitriding Steels

This type of steel is used for components that are to be nitrided, which provides high surface hardness and wear resistance as well as high temper resistance and resistance to scaling. The nitride layer improves corrosion resistance and resistance to adhesion. It is a quenched and tempered steel usually EN 1.8550 alloyed with aluminum which enhances the nitrided layer and provides hardness up to about 1100 Hv. The hardness of the base material is about 320 HB. This construction steel is stocked in round sections with unprocessed surface.
